Player Gyms

On this page

Gyms are player-run battle centers that offer a more competitive environment along with rewards. If there is at least one leader currently online, players can send a battle request to a gym in the /gyms menu. Players may apply to become a Gym Leader on our main website.

Gym Seasons

Gyms host both Singles and Doubles battles, each with its own format. These formats may rotate every two months as part of the Gym Season cycle. For example, a season might feature:

  • Singles: 6v6 battles (National Dex rules) in the OverUsed (OU) tier
  • Doubles: 6v6 battles (National Dex rules) in the Ubers tier

NPC Gyms

Every gym in the season's active pool is also run by an NPC leader, an AI trainer who is available at all times. NPC gyms can be visitted through the NPC category of the Gym Selection menu, where you are able to interact with the trainer to begin the battle. NPC leaders are battled as Singles with a full team of 6.

An NPC leader may be re-battled as often as you like, but only your first victory over each one pays out. That victory awards the gym's NPC badge, which records the date it was earned, along with the :battle_point:Battle Points listed under Victory Rewards. Defeating the NPC leader of every gym in the active pool awards one soulbound :keylight_blue: Shiny Key.

Leader Login Alerts

It can be challenging to catch a Gym Leader online at the right time. To help with this, players can enable login alerts by pressing Shift + Right-click on a gym in the Gym Selection menu. Once activated, this feature sends a direct Direct Message on Discord whenever a leader of that gym logs in to the server.

Victory Rewards

Every gym type awards a one-time :battle_point:Battle Point payout the first time you defeat each of its leaders in a season. Singles, Doubles, and Elite Four gyms also grant an item reward on every victory, including repeat wins over a leader you have already beaten.

Seasonal Rewards

By earning at least one badge from every Singles gym and every Doubles gym in a season, challengers unlock special seasonal rewards. Only one badge from each unique gym is needed.

One-time seasonal rewards include:

  • :cosmetics: Random Battler Cosmetic
  • Exclusive Pokémon Pin (unique to each season)
  • :keylight_blue: 2 Shiny Keys
  • Exotic Egg
  • :battle_point:500

Battler Cosmetics

Battler Cosmetics include 30 Pokémon Hat variations and 34 Pokémon Backpack variations.

Elite Four

The Elite Four is the final stage of a Gym Season: four type specialists and a reigning Champion, each played by an experienced Gym Leader. Access is unlocked by earning a badge from every Singles and every Doubles gym in the active pool, and the challenge may be completed once per season.

Challenging the Elite Four

  • /battle e4 opens the Elite Four menu, which lists the season's four typings and marks the ones you have already defeated
  • Selecting a typing sends a battle request to every Elite Four Leader who is online and accepting battles
  • The Leader who accepts takes all four of your battles. Run /battle e4 confirm again after each victory to queue the next typing
  • Once all four typings have been defeated, /battle e4 sends your request to the reigning Champion instead
  • Defeating the Champion claims the title from them

Starting a run places the Elite Four on a 12 hour cooldown, so one run may be started every 12 hours. A run already underway is never interrupted by that cooldown. Losing any battle ends the run immediately, and a challenger who loses to the Champion must clear all four typings again before another Champion battle.

Each of the four battles pays the Elite Four rewards listed under Victory Rewards, whether or not the run goes on to reach the Champion.

Champion Rewards

Defeating the Champion awards the following once per season:

  • :cosmetics: Random Battler Cosmetic
  • :legend_key: Legend Key
  • :battle_point:500
  • A soulbound Isle of Armor Ticket, which begins a Kubfu Expedition

The title itself is held until another challenger takes it, and carries over into the following season if it is not lost first. While the title is held, the Champion:

  • Leads the E4 Champion gym and receives requests from any challenger who has defeated all four typings
  • Wears the E4 Champion and E4 Leader titles, and receives the Champion role in Discord
  • May claim /kit e4champ once every 24 hours, which grants :battle_point:100, :money:15k, 3 Random E4 Type TMs, 5 PokéBall Vouchers (Tier III), and 24 Rare Candies
  • May not challenge the Elite Four
  • Receives the following boosts for the length of their reign:
    • Shiny Spawn Chance +15%
    • Hidden Ability Spawn Chance +10%
    • GGPlays Boss Spawn Chance +15%
    • Breeding Rate +25%
    • Daily Raid Charges +2

Recent Champions

Every reign is recorded in the Gym Seasons menu, which is opened from the Season Information button in /gyms. Each season lists its Champions in the order the title changed hands, dated to the day each reign began. The reigning Champion is the final entry and is marked with a trophy.

Your own record is kept in the Gyms panel of /profile:

  • Season Stats lists the badges you earned in each season, out of the 16 available
  • E4 Challenge Stats lists your Elite Four attempts and completions for the active season
  • E4 Champion Battles lists each Champion battle as a victory or a loss, with the opponent and the date
  • Once you have held the title, clicking the panel opens your Hall of Fame, the team used in your most recent Champion victory
